Raphanus sativus
An old Japanese favorite. The giant white roots are grown for their unique sweet, crisp, juicy flavor. Pure white tender roots are 24 inches long and 3 inches wide and stays fairly uniform in shape. It stays mild despite it’s size. This radish is wonderful pickled, raw, steamed, stir-fried, and excellent for oriental dishes. The greens are very good, tender and not bitter. This variety is a great radish for cool weather growing and mostly used as a winter radish. They store beautifully in a root cellar or in the fridge, and they can be harvested after the first mild frosts without much damage to the root. Very fast growing even in cold weather. A wonderful variety to grow.
Sowing: Direct sow in spring or late summer. Sow into well cultivated soil 1/4 inch deep. Keep moist during germination.

Information: Can succession sow every couple of weeks for continuous harvest. Radishes are a cool weather crop and do best in cooler weather. For best results, harvest on time. Harvest in late fall before frost. To be mild tender and attractive they should be grown rapidly with plenty of moisture. If left too long the roots may become hot, tough, and pithy.
