Heirloom.
An AAS bronze medal winner in 1941, it is still an excellent variety. Very productive plants produce an abundance of sweet, crunchy, 6 inch long, tapered, banana shaped sweet peppers. Excellent fresh in salads, on relish trays, as snacks and fried, sauteed, in salsas, roasted, grilled, in sandwiches, and pickled. Peppers change from pale to deep yellow, orange, or red as they mature. An excellent open-pollinated variety.
Sowing: Sow inside 1/4 of an inch deep 8 weeks prior to transplanting outside. Keep moist during germination. Planting or transplanting in 2 inch containers will produce larger plants with better roots. Harden off young plants. Transplant outside after last frost when the weather and soil is warm. Plant in full sun and well drained soil.
Germination: 12-21 days Spacing: 20- 24 inches apart. Days to maturity: 70 days Moisture: Moderate Soil: Well drained fertile soil with abundant phosphorus and calcium is best. Height: 18 to 24 inches Light: Full sun
Information: Harvest regularly for maximum yield. Mulching is recommended to preserve moisture and help reduce weeds. Feed lightly every 4 weeks. Harvest by cutting peppers from the plant. Cannot tolerate frost.
