It is the largest New Mexican pepper. It measures up to 12 inches long by 2 1/2 inches wide. This chile pepper was developed at New Mexico State University. The Guinness book of world records list this as the world’s largest. Pods are thick and pointed tapered and oblong. The pod color begins as green and matures into a rich red. Mildly flavored, it is great for roasting, drying, and freezing. Prolific producer. Can be used when it is green or red for fresh or dried use. Can be stuffed or fried. Grows vigorously. Easy to grow. Has smooth green foliage with small white flowers. An excellent choice.
Sowing: Sow inside 1/4 of an inch deep 8 weeks prior to transplanting outside. Keep moist during germination. Planting or transplanting in 2 inch containers will produce larger plants with better roots. Transplant outside after last frost when the weather and soil is warm. Ideally seedlings will have buds but no open flowers.

Information: Can be harvested when green or red. Harvest regularly for maximum yield. Mulching is recommended to preserve moisture and help reduce weeds. Feed lightly every 4 weeks. Cannot tolerate frost. Dark red fruits are fully ripened.
