Jalapeno M is the hot pepper everyone knows. Jalapeno is pretty hot with 4750 scoville units. This is the Jalepeno that is the standard for Nachos and Mexican cuisine. 3 1/2 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide rounded thick walled fruits are borne in large numbers on very vigorous 26 inch plants. Fruits are dark green and mature to red. They are ready to pick when they are green and can be picked also when they are fully mature. Can preserve by freezing, pickling, drying, and relishing.
Sowing: Sow inside 1/4 of an inch deep 8 weeks prior to transplanting outside. Keep moist during germination. Planting or transplanting in 2 inch containers will produce larger plants with better roots. Harden off young plants. Transplant outside after last frost when the weather and soil is warm in full sun. Ideally seedlings will have buds but no open flowers.
Germination: 7-14 days Spacing: Space plants 12-18 inches apart. Row spacing: 18-24 inches apart Days to maturity: 73 days
Moisture: Moderate Soil: Well drained, normal, loamy Height: 2-3 feet Light: Full sun
Information: Harvest regularly for maximum yield. Mulching is recommended to preserve moisture and help reduce weeds. Feed lightly every 4 weeks. Cannot tolerate frost. Plant hot peppers and sweet peppers in seperate areas to avoid cross pollination.
