An All American Selections winner in 1988 for superior performance and flavor. Burgundy Okra is a beautiful variety with creamy yellow flowers with lovely burgundy red stems and pods with green leaves. Vigorous 3-6 foot plants produce over a long season starting when the plant is one foot tall and continuing to frost if kept harvested. Red pods are tender and thoroughly delicious. Excellent for use in soups, stews, curries, relishes, roasted, fried, boiled, and pickling. It keeps it’s flavor and texture even when allow to go to full maturity. For best flavor harvest when the pods are 4-6 long. Heavy bearing. Pods are excellent dried for floral arrangements. An excellent beautiful selection! Unique!
Sowing: Direct sow after danger of frost has passed 1/2 inch deep when soil has warmed. Sow indoors 1/4 inch deep 4-5 weeks ahead of transplant. Keep moist during germination. Transplant after danger of frost. Do not disturb roots.
