A lovely heirloom variety that profusely bears intensely purple trumpet shaped flowers with a rosy red star throat and lovely heart shaped foliage on a vigorous vine makes for a vivid display. Strong vine that quickly climbs arbors, trellises, and fences. Can even be grown in containers. Stunning draping over large pots and baskets. Can be used as a ground cover Attractive to hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees. Early flowering plants bloom continuously to frost. Prolific bloomer on fast growing beautiful vines. Introduced in the 1930’s. A lovely addition to any landscape!
Sowing: Direct sow seeds in spring after danger of frost through early summer 1/2 of an inch deep in well drained soil in full to partial sun. Firm soil over seeds. Keep soil evenly moist until germination. Or start indoors 4-5 weeks before last frost. Keep moist and warm. Provide strong light source. Transplant after danger of frost when night temperatures remain 50 degrees F. or above. Take care when transplanting being careful not to disturb roots. Easy to grow from seed.
