Romaine type lettuce, this vigorous variety produces distinct growing upright heads, with crunchy dark green leaves and a crisp cream to pale green heart. It was developed in 1952 and since it was introduced it has steadily gained popularity. It is sweet, very crisp, tender, and flavorful. It is very good in salads. It withstands warm weather better than most lettuce. It has resistance to tip burn and mosiac. It forms 10-12 inch uniform heads. A good salad choice.
Sowing: Direct sow 3-4 weeks before last frost, and succession sow every 3 weeks until 2 weeks before first frost, skipping the very hot part of season. Cover seed barely about 1/8 of an inch firming soil gently. For inside sowing, sow 6 weeks before last frost. Transplant after danger of serious frost. Keep moist during germination.
