Asteraceae Lactuca
As tasty as it is beautiful, Marvel of Four Seasons is a truly beautiful lettuce. It is a Pre-1885 French heirloom, butter head type lettuce that has tender sweet leaves with a delicate delicious buttery flavor. It is quite a beauty in the garden with it’s signature butter head shape and an array of beautiful colors ranging in bronze, gold, ruby red, and green. Red tipped leaves encompass tightly folded green hearts. Wonderful color in salads. With it’s ability to be harvested in extended seasons it also thrives in a range of climates and can almost be grown year around. Does great through the summer heat and can withstand down to 20 degrees F in a sealed enclosure, and it does not turn bitter when it gets hot outside. Regardless of the weather it’s texture always remains crisp. Slow to run to seed with a long opportunity for harvesting. Heads are 8-10 inches in diameter and can be grown in large containers. A vigorous plant that grows very quickly. An exceptional variety.
