Bean – Scarlet Runner Pole

Bright scarlet flowers with green heart shaped foliage, Scarlet Runner Bean produces beautiful flowers and delicious beans in one great plant! Vigorous plants are rapid climbers that are highly ornamental and edible both. It produces showy clusters of bright scarlet flowers that are followed by an abundance of 8 inch long slender pods. Good for snap, shelling, or dry beans. Excellent pods when young can be used as snap beans or pods can be allowed to mature for shelled fresh use or dried. Great soup or chil beans. Seeds are very colorful. Wonderful flowers are edible that have a mild sweet flavor. Use them for garnish or in salads and more. Can be planted along a fence or trellis. An excellent selection!
Sowing: Plant in full sun outdoors in spring when all danger of frost and soil is warm. Sow seeds 1 inch deep in moist well drained soil, placing seed on it’s side. Keep seed bed moderately moist during germination. If started indoors first, transplant when 2-3 inches in height. Soaking 1-2 hours before planting speeds germination.

Information: Picking beans continuously will promote new blooms and beans. Support with poles, trellis, string, or fence. Water deeply by soaking soil. For dry beans leave pods on plants until dry or pick when leathery and dry indoors.
