A wonderful unique radish, Watermelon Radish is a heirloom radish of historic China. Plant features 4 inch round roots that have white and green skin and a wonderful rose red center. Combined when sliced they look like a watermelon. Roots are remarkably sweet, tender and delicious. Excellent for soups, stir frys, in pasta, eaten fresh, and adding color and flavor to salads and relish trays. It is a unique and colorful large winter radish. It needs to be grown in cool weather. An excellent selection!
Sowing: Direct sow in early spring and again in mid to late summer. Watermelon radish is a winter radish and is best sown in mid to late summer for a fall harvest. Sow into well cultivated soil 1/2 inch deep. Keep moist during germination. Keep cool and moist to help prevent it running to seed.

Information: Can succession sow every couple of weeks for continuous harvest. Stop planting when the weather gets too warm. Begin again once the weather cools off for a fall harvest. Watermelon radish is a winter radish and is best grown for a fall crop. For best results, harvest on time, beginning harvest 3-4 weeks after planting. To be mild tender and attractive they should be grown rapidly with plenty of moisture. If left toolong the roots may become hot, tough, and pithy.
