Plant produces beautiful delicately frilled intense dark red loose leaf lettuce. It is the darkest red of all red lettuces. It produces succulent sweet delicious leaves. It will add a splash of color in the garden as well as in salads and sandwiches. It holds it’s color very well. It was introduced in 1957. Ruby Lettuce was an AAS winner in 1958. A good early crop. Slow bolting. Vigorous and strong. A wonderful selection!
Sowing: Direct sow as early as the soil can be worked covering seed barely about 1/8 of an inch firming soil gently. Can be sown 3-4 weeks before planting outside. Transplants can survive temperatures as low as 20 degrees F. Keep moist during germination.
Germination: 7-14 days Spacing: 12 inches apart. Space rows 18-24 inches apart. Days to maturity: 46
Moisture: Plenty of moisture Soil: Loose, sandy loam, well drained soil. Will grow in a wide range of soils Light: Full sun (at least 6 hours a day)
Information: Prefers cool weather. A cool weather crop. Sow every 3 weeks for continuous supply of lettuce. Can harvest outer leaves or entire head.
