Bush Bean
Edamame soybean plants produce clusters of pods with 2-3 beans each. They are very nutritious and healthy, and a good source of quality protein. Deliciously flavored and tender. They can be eaten as a snack by simmering the plump pods in salt water until tender and taking the beans out of the pod to be eaten. They can also be shelled and added to stir fries, vegetables, and other dishes. A healthy wonderful addition to add to the garden.
Sowing: Plant in full sun outdoors in spring after all danger of frost has passed and soil is warm. Sow seeds 1-1 1/2 inch deep in moist well drained soil, placing seed on it's side. Keep seed bed moderately moist during germination but not soaked. If started indoors first, transplant when 2-3 inches in height. Soaking 1-2 hours before planting speeds germination.
Germination: 5-8 days Spacing: Space plants 5-6 inches apart. Space rows 18-24 inches apart Days to maturity: 85 days Light: Full sun
Information: Multiple plantings will allow for harvesting over an extended season. Harvest while pods are still green and quite thick. Pods will turn yellow if they are left too long. Generally soybeans are collected all at one time.
